Water Heater Replacement and Recirculating Pump Upgrade in Seaside

Replacing a leaking 40-gallon tank and updating the recirculation system restores reliable hot water access.

Signs of System Failure Water heaters are often out of sight and out of mind until a leak occurs. For a homeowner in Seaside, the existing 40-gallon water heater had reached the end of its lifespan, showing visible rust and active leaking. Beyond the tank itself, the hot water recirculation system—responsible for getting hot water to fixtures quickly—required attention to ensure the new system would operate efficiently.

Addressing the Infrastructure Simply swapping the tank is not always enough. Upon inspection, we determined that the recirculating pump needed to be replaced. To improve the system’s maintainability and performance, we also identified the need for better isolation valves and backflow prevention within the piping loop.

The Installation Process We performed a comprehensive replacement of the hot water plant. The scope of work included:

  • Tank Replacement: We removed the old, leaking unit and installed a new high-efficiency 40-gallon water heater.
  • Pump Upgrade: A new recirculating pump was installed to ensure rapid hot water delivery throughout the home.
  • Piping Improvements: We repiped the pump assembly, adding a new shutoff valve and a check valve. These components prevent backflow and allow for easier maintenance in the future.
  • Seismic Safety: The unit was properly strapped and secured according to local safety codes.

Restoring Service Once all connections were made, we bled the air out of the lines to prevent airlocks. We plugged in the new pump and fired up the water heater. The system was thoroughly checked for leaks and proper cycling. The home now has a robust hot water system with improved flow control and fresh components.
